Oklahoma Acquarium

On our way home from Arkansas we stopped at the Oklahoma Acquarium in Jenks, OK. If you ever get a chance, GO! The kids love the shark tunnel -- you see sharks swim over top of you! There are lots of hand on exhibits as well! It was great!

Natural Falls State Park

We have been learning all about our great state this year. We had the opportunity on the way to Arkansas to check out the tallest waterfall in Oklahoma! It was beautiful!

Valentines Crafts

Zaine did this one...without any prompting ;) What a sweet guy!

We did these last year and they were really fun. We added the little hearts, they were made by the outside of their palms.

Tay's design, she loved dumping the glitter. What a mess, but they had fun!

Eggs Anyone?

Zaine is so proud of himself. He has finally perfected his egg cracking skills. He's been making eggs everyday. He cracks them , mixes them with some milk and put them in the microwave for a couple minutes and wallah! Protein for champions!

Laundry Match Game

So...I'm not a procrastinator but I have admit one thing. I hate folding socks! So when I don't have a match for a sock I throw it in a pile and it sits there in our laundry room tucked away from the world. Until one day....none of us have any socks and we must face the pile...HEAD ON!

We didn't let it get us down though. We made a game out of it. We laid out all the socks and then raced to see who could get the most matches. It was fun and I won!!!! Z's just no match for my awesome laundry skills, hehe!

B is for Blueberry Banana Bread

For Tay's school today we broke out of the box with the letter B and made Blueberry Banana Bread. Both the kids love helping me in the kitchen so we had lots of fun!

We are onto our next letter, B! Tay had fun with this project. We used Brown paper and glued Buttons on.

"Art" Project

Walmart had gingerbread houses for 2.50 so we picked one up and called it our art project for the week. Zaine did most of this, I put on the remainder of candies and icing. Zaine doesn't care for art or being creative too much, but I think he enjoyed this. Maybe because he got to lick the bowl afterwards???

Memorizing Central America Countries

Zaine has been trying to memorize the Central America countries and we came up with an acronym to help us remember:Better (Belize) Go(Guatemala) Eat (El Salvador) Habaneros(Honduras) Near the(Nicaragua) coast of (Costa Rica) Panama.

Quickest Way To Learn the States

At the beginning of this year Zaine did not know his states or capitals. A member of the family sent me this website. Zaine loves computer stuff so he ate this right up. He learned all of his states in 3 days! I love how the program puts how many they get wrong and how long it took them so they can keep challenging themselves to do better. It's pretty addicting. They have all different levels too. They have one for capitals as well and it took him about the same amount of time to memorize them! Pretty cool! It has games for all the continets and we plan on using to help us we study each one separately. It's really neat and it's FREE!!!

Dry Ice

Tay recieved Hooked on Phonics for Preschoolers at Christmas from Nana and Papa. I finally had time to read over and get started. Tay has loved doing "Math". I don't know why she calls it Math but thats what she calls it and its cute so we go with it.

We spend about 15-20 minutes a day on "school". This is our first week and here is some of our A work.

The first A is decapauged in stickers. She loves stickers! The next A had dried up playdough glued all over it. I saw this on another blog and just had to try it since we have so much dried up playdough! The bottom 3 come from workbooks I picked up in the clearance section at Walmart. They take about 5 minutes and Tay loves doing a "craft".

We used fuzzy balls from the craft cabinet to do this A.

We usually sing the ABC's, go over what A says, look for A in different things, then play a little game on the Hooked on Phonics website and then do a little craft. Its fun and it helps her feel like a "big kid". She is just two so we just go with the flow!

I am impressed that she is retaining it though! I dont think I was that smart when I was two! :)D

Alabaster Caverns

Zaine has been studying rocks in science for the past month. Last week the weather warmed up and we went to Alabaster Caverns in Freedom, OK. Its about a 2 1/2 hour drive from here. Nana and Papa joined us for our "adventure" as Tay called it.

On the way we stopped at McDonald's in Woodward and Tay loved playing on the huge indoor play stuff. I wish we had one where we live!! After that we loaded up and went another 30 minutes to the Caverns.

There was more than we anticipated. They had live snakes, spiders, bat skeletons and a stuffed owl. There were many different rocks , many of which we had only seen in books and on the computer.

The bats....I did not know there were going to be bats EVERYWHERE! I think we enjoyed learning about them as much as the caverns. The bats were in hibernation. They can hibernate for 4 months! They were throughout the cavern but this was a big cluster! There was estimated to be 15,000 bats last year. They count them every year.

Alabaster Caverns is the largest gypsum cavern opened in the world. It's sounds so cool that we can say we've been there now!
